Decals
A decal (sometimes called a transfer) is usually a paper, plastic, cloth, or ceramic substrate with a pattern or image that can be transferred to another surface by contact, most often by using heat or water. The word comes from the longer, English word, ‘decalcomania’ which is derived from the French word, décalcomanie. The process was invented by a French engraver, Simon Francois Ravenet, who moved to England where it became widely used in the late 19th century’s decal craze. Most modern decals are made of vinyl.
